I love romance novels, they make me laugh, and this one certainly delivers. The setting, the humor, the characters, all of them were perfect for this genre. The devil is in the details, however, and this book could do with a bit more of those. Additionally, the angry ex gets put on the back burner to make room for some nice hot sex soup but hey, it's hard to find people in space and it allowed for the characters to grow and develop in a refreshingly realistic way.
Overall, died laughing but longed for just a little bit more.

Three quite different characters, different species and desires/kink but it all works for them somehow. Both Flinn and Basil are focused on Laila and their individual relationships with her addressed her needs & unknown desires. The world building was fascinating and the wry humour was very entertaining. There was lots of discipline, age play and the damsel in distress was rescued in an entertaining if not heroic fashion. I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an advance review copy.

I really liked this book. Laila was the lost little girl trying to run from a bad situation. Basil was the white knight that came to Laila's rescue. Flin was the bad-ass protector to keep Laila safe. These three characters manage to make their relationship work despite their fundamental differences (the loving but strict Daddy, the Master and the part time little girl/slave). I would not have thought that the 2 lifestyles (daddy/little and master/slave) would coincide and flourish in a threesome but the author does a great job of separating and integrating the relationships. The story had a smooth progression and was hard to put down. The world building was great (I loved the hard light suite and it would have made Rimmer jealous - sorry, Red Dwarf fangirl braking through) . Give this enjoyable story a read.
When I opened the book I had no intention of reading much; however, I ended up reading for over 2 hours before I could put the book down....and for me, things went down hill from there. This review will have some spoilers.
At first I was sympathetic to Laila and her life-long abuse; however, her consistently childish(not child-like) behavior, irrationality and apparent inability to recognize the danger they were in got really old, really fast. Laila acted like a badly behaved 3 year old on her bad days and a well behaved 5 year old on her good days; she did have moments where she displayed more maturity but they were few and far between. She never seemed to act her age of 22-23 except when she had sex with the guys and that was mainly because she was having sex and not a tantrum.
I have been struggling to finish this book for the last 3 days; it started well but....for me it got very tedious and frustrating.

Here are a few of the examples I found hard to believe a woman that age would normally do
She knows a gangster is after her and is told not to leave the hotel room without one of the guys, but no, she puts on her new dress and goes to get hot chocolate because she is sure the H's are over reacting.
She regularly throws temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way.
She calls Basil "Mr. ouchie hands" when he spanks her.
She is told the planet they are on has many dangerous predators and she is not to leave the ship while the guys go risk their lives to get an egg which will have the price taken off her head....and yet within and hour or two of promising she will not leave the ship unless a predator is so large it is in danger of ripping open the ship(hello, doesn't that say the place is dangerous!) she blithely trots outside to see some bunny type critters.
After she is saved from almost being eaten, instead of being thankful she is snarky until she realizes one of the guys is still out there after distracting the Quorak.
I am at 90 % and will finish it today but I don't know if I will buy any more by this author if all her female characters are this annoying. I am also not too thrilled with treating her like an actual baby with diapers and all. Not interested in age play but it didn't bug me until he started treating her like an infant.
If adults who act like children don't annoy you then you might like this book; several other reviewers did.
The story was really boring. I couldn't like any of the characters. There wasn't enough focus on their relationship and when there was, it went from slightly talking, to suddenly they love each other. There was more focus on the little things, pages and pages of how the laws were and different planets and suddenly, they love each other? Hard to follow. Sure, they had some nice sex scenes but there was no attachment to the characters for me, so the sex scenes were just detached. This story had really great potential if there was more focus on the characters vs. everything around them. To read about them building a relationship with each other would have greatly improved this book but there just wasn't enough focus on that. Also, to learn more about the characters and their lives prior to meeting each other and building them up more. Sorry, just not for me.
This is the first book I've read by Katie Douglas, and I'm so happy I picked this one up. The author has a knack for science fiction and worldbuilding, and she invites you to peek into her universe to spend time with Laila, Basil, and Flin, the story's protagonists.
This well-crafted, well-written story allows newcomers to erotic fiction to explore a number of different subgenres - ageplay, M/s, D/s, and more - with more than enough spankings and discipline to keep you shifting in your seat! I'm very much looking forward to reading the next installment in this series!
Decent character development. Interesting counterpoints between the two lead male characters with respect to the female lead.
