He has despised her for years .He thought she should have marrieds Nate years ago. He has no idea she was forced in marriage by her father.Nate Hughes is the new Duke and Marcus is going to New York to find him and tell him the news. Caroline wants to go on the ship to New York but he refuses . He is surprised when he finds her on the ship with him. She had always liked Marcus more and Nate only as a friend. Is it possible the two can find love before they get to Nate. They just need to stop disagreeing and tell each other have they feel.The last book will tie everything together I suppose. A lot of people's lives depend on the new Duke.

The year is 1816. The Duke of Beckworth has died without a direct heir. As the solicitors attempt to find the next Duke, what happens with the people that depend on Beckworth for their livelihood? There are five books in this series, each written by a different author.
Lord Markus Hawkins needs to find his childhood best friend who he lost track of after an argument revolving around Caro. Caroline Addison, Lady Whytestone is shocked when Mark visits her to find out where Nathaniel Hughes is and why Mark needs to find Nate. She has been a widow for a year and is delighting on giving away the money left to her by the husband she didn't want. Caroline insists on going with Mark on the trip to America and Mark refuses to let her go. Mark boards the schooner that will take him to New York only to find that Caroline is already on board. During the trip to New York, Mark learns more about what happened when they were seventeen and his desire for Caroline only deepens as the journey progresses. Will Mark and Caroline be able to resolve their differences and find a new start?
A Year Without a Duke been an amazing series. Short novellas that pack an emotional punch. This one did not disappoint. This is a tie-in to the author's "House of Trent" series. Mark is the younger brother of the Duke of Trent. Caroline is protecting her broken heart from the man she loved when she was seventeen and forced into marriage with a much older man. Mark believes that Caroline was only after the title and money. He still believes that Caroline loved Nathan and doesn't want to betray his best friend. I loved the passion in this novella. I have read all four in the series, and this one is the hottest. The characters were wonderful. While it is short, it packs a punch.

This series has been amazing! Each novella has been fantastic! Jennifer Haymore's offering to the series is my favorite (so far).
Caro and Mark have a history which includes Nate - the missing heir to the Duke of Beckworth. It has been determined that Nathaniel Hughes aka Nate is in fact the duke's heir, the problem is Nate is not in England - he is in New York. Mark, Nate and Caro were the best of friends growing up and they all assumed that Nate and Cato would marry. That is until Mark and Nate went off to school and Caro married a much older viscount.
They all made assumptions and Mark was particularly cruel to Caro. He seeks her out to find out if she knows where Nate is and when he tells her why he needs to find him - he again makes assumptions and pushes her away.
When Caro turns up in the ship to America Mark is not pleased. But slowly they start to open up to each other and deep, dark secrets are revealed and an incredibly passionate affair follows.
It is oblivious to the reader that these two belong together - but they insist on making their road to a HEA difficult - well, at least Mark does.
This was a really lovely second chance at love romance - with some steamy love scenes. I loved it and can't wait to read Nate's story! This series is not to be missed!!! The books are not interconnected but share a common theme - they can be read in any order and still be enjoyed.
I was expecting a little more story with substance. Most of the book revolved about them being on a boat. Not enough depth within the story.
I wanted more of this story, it was too short for me. But I felt the intimacy of the two main characters and the sexual tension every time they were near each other, which it made for a good read. I just wished I got more of their story in details.
